Chiller TV - It's Scary Good!

I was flipping through my cable guide and found this channel.  Right now it shows reruns of "Monsters", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "Twilight Zone", "Tales From the Darkside", and "Outer Limits", as well as horror movies.  They have a website and a blog, and I've noticed they'll be highlighting the Masters of Horror series in July.

Check them out!

Monday Movie Review - BASEMENT JACK

5 out of 5 gravestones for originality.

5 out of 5 gravestones for brutality.

5 out of 5 gravestones for gore and gore effects.

5 out of 5 gravestones for one memorable killer.

5 out of 5 gravestones for directing, cinematography, and editing.

3 out of 5 gravestones for a couple of WTF moments (A young woman is confronted by the blood-splattered murderer, and she TIPTOES away from him?  And a young man who enters the house and meets the killer bolts UPSTAIRS instead of going back out the door he just walked through?)

In brief, a killer who was "created" by a sadistic mother finds joy and release in murdering her.  He then continues his murder spree by hiding in random basements and killing the families when they returned home. Hence the moniker "Basement Jack".  But one survivor is determined to get her revenge, if only the local police force will believe her story.

FanTAStic!  My recommendation?

New Review for THE TUB!

Reviewed by Claudia Rhyes, Manic Readers

Amanda Storey works for RiteCost, and has been sent to the little town of Itsy, Oklahoma to try and persuade the town’s people that having the mega-store built in their small community will benefit everyone. When her reservation at the town inn has been filled, she finds another room at a little bed and breakfast. The only problem is the B&B has more in store for her then just a bed to sleep in.

The Tub kept me interested the entire time. There was sex, albeit horrific toward the end, and horror that had me widening my eyes in shock. I don’t want to say too much and give the story away, but all I have to say is when Amanda pulled that head out of the water, I felt my stomach turn. The horror was definitely there, and despite this being a very short tale, it packed quite a punch!

Monday Movie Review - TROLL HUNTER

If you don't get HD-NET TV, then do.  Once a month they spotlight an upcoming horror movie before it hits theaters.  And in June I got to see TROLL HUNTER.

It takes place in Norway, and features three college movie makers who are investigating (and filming) the recent rash of bear attacks on the general population.  They track down one old, grizzled man whom they believe is responsible for killing the bears, which are a protected species in their country.

Instead what they discover is far more appalling and mind-blowing.  The man is really a governmental appointed Troll Hunter (papers to be filled out and all!), and he's busy tracking down the enormous creatures who have escaped their usual habitat.

To say that the effects in this movie are phenomenal are understated.  There's not a lot of gore, but the film goes after you psychologically.  What really sold this movie to me is that I didn't know the actors, which makes the "seeing what they're seeing through their camera's eye" all that more believable.  Note there are some slow spots, but that's because the high action scenes leave you with your adrenaline pumping.

My recommendation?
